Where are you?
We meet at Rundle Reserve, Salisbury South.
When is it?
Generally during the summer we meet on Saturday mornings at 8:45 am. Families are encouraged to arrive earlier to help set up. When you register you will receive the "Green Book" with all the details, but the program is also online. During the winter, there is a cross country program of events.
How old do athletes have to be?
Athletes have to be at least 3, and be born no earlier than October 1993. Athletes under 5 must participate in Tiny Tots. Check out the age groups.
How much does it cost?
Athletes can Come'N'Try anytime for a nominal fee per child, which is deducted from the centre's registration fees, if they register.
Registration fees and uniform costs are listed here.
What should athletes bring? A hat and sunscreen following the SunSmart policy. A water bottle. Wear your uniform (if registered!). Athletic shoes (see the spikes policy for when spikes are acceptable for Under 12 and older). How good do athletes have to be? There is no skill or ability requirement to participate in and enjoy Little Athletics. The emphasis of Little Athletics is to "Be your best". As such, there is a focus on achieving personal bests (PBs). While there is a State Individual Championships event (which does have achievement requirements), there are other events aimed at athletes who achieve more modest results, such as the Northern Region Improvers. What should we do the first time? Turn up at a home meet, and find the registrar. She'll guide you through the process. Committee members, including the registrar, should be wearing a committee badge, and normally wear a centre "supporters" polo shirt. We're all pretty friendly, you can ask anyone, especially committee members! More information is listed on the Come'N'Try page. What should a new athlete do?
The best way to learn is to turn up to training (once registered), on Monday and Wednesday nights at 5pm.
During a regular meet, each gender and age group has a chaperone, who will escort you to each event. Chaperones are volunteer parents, who can provide some basic help with the events.
What should a new parent do? We're a parent run organisation. A responsible adult will need to stay on-site at all times. There are lots of jobs that need to be done. You can ease in gradually though. What events are there? I'm glad you asked. During the summer (regular season) we have a variety of track and field events, including runs of various distances, walks, hurdles, discus, shot put, javelin, long jump, high jump and triple jump. There are also relays, although they are not part of our regular meets. During the winter, there is a cross country competition. What if it's hot or raining? Check the weather policy. Announcements of delays, modifications or cancellations should be made on the front page of the website, and via the email list. Any other questions?
