Last Meet This Year

posted Dec 16, 2011 4:25 AM by Peter Jackson   [ updated Dec 16, 2011 4:29 AM ]

Hello everyone,

Can you believe it – this week is our final meet for the year!  Where has the first half of the season gone?  I have quite a bit to put in this week’s newsletter, so please read all the way through.

SATURDAY 17TH DECEMBER 2011

This week we are holding our Pentathlon Day which had to be cancelled a few weeks ago due to rain.  We would like to thank A & J Kennedy Plumbing who have kindly sponsored the day.  Please support our sponsors where possible, as without them these events would not be able to happen.

On Saturday, after completion of the events around 11am, we will be having a visit from Santa.   We will also be having a PARENTS COMPETITION on Saturday.  The events will be 100m, mystery throw and long jump.  We will take down names on Saturday morning – let’s show the children how it is done!

TRAINING

Tonight will be our final training session for this year.  Training will re-commence in the new year on Monday 16th January 2012.  Training for the second half of the season will be the same – Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5.00pm until 6.30pm.

SALAA HOLIDAY COACHING CLINIC - 16th – 20th JANUARY 2012

SALAA will be holding a Holiday Coaching Clinic at Santos Stadium from Monday 16th January to Friday 20th January 2012.  This clinic is for athletes Under 10 to Under 17 with limited sessions available for Under 9 athletes.  See the flyer.  If you wish to attend the form needs to be returned to SALAA no later than 20th December 2011.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

The raffle will be drawn this Saturday after Santa’s visit.  There are still a lot of books that haven’t been returned to me, please don’t forget to bring them this Saturday and either give to me personally or leave at the canteen.  We have a food hamper, toy hamper, Sports Power pack, and various toiletries packs – so you need to be in it to win it!

SALAA PERSONAL BEST DAY 22nd JANUARY 2012

Our first meet back is on the 14th January 2012 at our home grounds.  The following week, on Sunday 22nd January 2012, the meet will be held at Santos Stadium for the SALAA Personal Best Day.  I have attached a copy of the program for that day.  Registered athletes do not need to enter, they can just turn up on the day.

MULTI-EVENT CHAMPIONSHIPS 26th FEBRUARY 2012

For those athletes, in age groups Under 9 and over, wishing to attend the Multi-Event Championships, I have attached a copy of the entry form which you will need to fill in and return to Denise Ratsch no later than 28th January 2012.

OUTSIDE TRACK

Just a friendly reminder to everyone – we have had quite a few incidents this season of children walking onto the outside (dolomite) track without looking, and almost colliding with athletes competing.   We would hate to see a child or athlete injured, especially at the speed some of the older athletes are running at.  Please ensure you watch your group or child whilst crossing – thank you.

TOILETS

Please keep an eye on your children whilst they go to the toilets.  We had an unfortunate episode last week where boys have been throwing wet toilet paper on the roof and walls and made a huge mess.  Nobody wants to spend the last part of the day having to clean this up, so please keep an eye out so this doesn’t happen again.  Thank you.

FAMILY ROSTER FOR CANTEEN/BBQ

This week’s family members to help out canteen/bbq area are:

Whitlow/Branden

Page

Riley

Stephens

Warnest

THANK YOU

On behalf of the committee we would like to thank those few people who set up the equipment in the morning and pack up the equipment in the afternoon.  The more help we can get with this, the better.  So if you can get there a little earlier in the day, or hang around a little later, it would be appreciated.

We would like to thank those families that have assisted in the canteen/bbq area.  We have trialed a new system this year and it seems to be working really well.

On behalf of the committee, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.   Please enjoy your break, stay safe and we look forward to seeing all the athletes refreshed and ready for the second half of the season.

Thank you for your time and will keep you informed of upcoming events in the near future.  Please don’t forget to check out our website – www.selac.net

December 10 Meets

posted Dec 8, 2011 3:36 AM by Peter Jackson

Hello everyone,

First off I would like to say congratulations to all the athletes that competed in yesterday’s State Relay Championships.  You did the club proud and should be very happy with the results.

SATURDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2011

We have our normal home meet this Saturday, at our home grounds, starting at 8.45am.  Look forward to seeing you there.

SATURDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2011

For athletes that are Under 14 years of age and older, there will be a meet at the Golden Grove Little Athletics Centre.  Younger siblings of these age groups are welcome to attend.  Please notify Paula Byford if you wish to attend on:  recorder@selac.net .  Please see attached program for the day.

UNIFORM

Please be advised that the wearing of correct uniform is a MUST – there are quite a few athletes at our meets that aren’t wearing the uniform, or don’t have their number attached.  You should have your Salisbury East T-shirt with your number on the front, the age badge on the left hand breast pocket area and IGA badge on your right sleeve.  Every athlete should also have royal blue shorts or bike pants.  We have uniforms for sale in the club rooms if you need to purchase anything at any time.

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

Please be advised that your raffle books need to be returned to me on Saturday 10th December.  Thank you to everyone who has returned their books, and bought more.  This fundraiser means we can keep costs down for EVERY athlete, so please buy a book (or two) to help out.

It is not too late to donate a non-perishable food item and/or toy for our hamper.  The bigger the hamper, the happier the winner will be (it could be you!!!).  The basket is on the table next to the canteen if you wish to put your donations in there.

FAMILY ROSTER

This year we have introduced a family roster to help out with the canteen and barbecue.  Unfortunately, over the years, it has been left to one or two families, so feel that if everyone helps out once, we can all enjoy watching our children compete, in a fair way.  I have attached a copy of the roster, so please keep an eye out for your name.  We only need one member of your family, so it doesn’t have to necessarily be the mum or dad, it could be an aunt, uncle, grandparent, or older sibling.  Our canteen/bbq is our biggest fundraiser, so this will help EVERY athlete in the long run.  If you normally chaperone, this will give someone else a chance to learn that job, whilst you help out in the canteen.

This week’s family members to help out are:

Harlington

Howard-Jones

Joy

Mackie

Quinn

Thank you to those families that have, without complaint, helped out in their allotted time slot.  We very much appreciate your efforts and support.

Thank you for your time and will keep you informed of upcoming events in the near future.  Please don’t forget to check out our website – www.selac.net

(State Relay Championships)

We had laughter and tears, smiles and cheers, but most of all we had a wonderful day of athletics.

Congratulations to all of the athletes who competed at today’s

I.G.A State Relay Championships, you all did yourselves, your parents and your club proud!

We had lots of great comments from the officials and other clubs on the way you conducted yourselves,

both during your events and when cheering on your team mates from the stands.

A big thank you also to the parents who took the time out of their busy lives to transport their children.

To cheer them on and still find time to volunteer at various events during the day.

It is people like you which give our club a great name !

A huge thank you goes to the Hall family.

Without your help and support I would never have got through the day.

So from me 'Thanks'.  Click Me!

See you all at Little A's next week.

Hello everyone,

Firstly, I would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone who walked in the Salisbury Pageant last Saturday with our club.  It was a great turn out, considering the weather looked a little dodgy, and as a bystander, it was fabulous to see you all walk with pride.  Well done!

SALISBURY 26TH NOVEMBER 2011

This Saturday is Pentathlon Day which starts at the normal time of 8.45am at our home grounds.  Each athlete will take part in 5 events:  a sprint, a run, hurdles, a jump and a throwing event.  Points will be awarded for performances in all 5 events.

We are extremely grateful to A & J Kennedy Plumbing Pty Ltd who will be our sponsor for the day.  Please support our sponsor where you can as without these companies, these events would not be possible.

By now you would have received your raffle tickets for our Christmas raffle.  If you weren’t at Friday’s meet, they will be in your chaperone’s folder and will be available for collection this week.  We are asking each family, if possible, to donate a non-perishable food item and/or toy, so we can make one or two hampers up.   I will have a box left in the club rooms that you can put these items in.

SALISBURY PAGEANT 19TH NOVEMBER 2011

The Salisbury East Little Athletics Club is, once again, participating in the Salisbury Pageant.  We would love to see as many of our athletes as possible walk with our club.  We are the only athletics club participating in the pageant, so let’s do our club proud.  The children are to wear their uniform, but add Christmas decorations to them, i.e. some tinsel, reindeer ears, santa hats, flashing Christmas badges, that sort of thing.  We are meeting at the Water Wheel at 9.30am.  Please come along and join in the fun!

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

I have organized the raffle tickets, and they will be put in the age group folders for your chaperones to hand out this week, for our Christmas Raffle.  We are asking each family, if possible, to donate a non-perishable food item and/or toy, so we can make one or two hampers up.   I will have a box left in the club rooms that you can put these items in.

If you are a member of a business, or know someone who is, that would like to donate something for our raffle, that would be greatly appreciated.

At SALISBURY this week

posted Oct 19, 2011 5:56 PM by Peter Jackson

Hello everyone,

We have a few things coming up over the next few weeks, so thought I should keep you informed.

SATURDAY 22nd OCTOBER 2011

This Saturday is NOT going to be held at our grounds – we are instead meeting at Salisbury Little Athletics Centre, Creaser Park, Lavender Drive, Parafield Gardens, for our Runs Day.  It is suggested we arrive around 8.30am.  We hope to see as many Salisbury East Athletes as possible.

STATE RELAY CHAMPIONSHIPS 4th DECEMBER 2011

Every Athlete from the Under 9 age group up will have received a yellow form, in their red bag, when they registered.  We are asking EVERY ATHLETE from the Under 9’s up to please fill this form in and return to Denise Ratsch before the 29th October 2011.  Even if you are NOT able, or willing, to compete, please still fill in the form stating this and return to Denise.  This way, we ensure that all athletes are aware of the event.  Thank you.

CHAPERONES

We would like to thank all the parents out there chaperoning.  Without you, our meets would not be able to run, so a huge thank you from all the committee.  We are asking, to help out the recorders, if you could possibly make sure the following is done on your sheets every week:

For throws and jumps, please make sure every measurement is done with 2 decimal placings:-

i.e.       If I jumped 4 metres, 30 centimetres, please make sure you write down:     4.30m NOT 4.3m

For running, please write down the FULL time given:

i.e.       If I ran 2 minutes, 5 seconds and 33 hundreth seconds, please write down:          2.05.33

Do not round up or down – please just write down EXACTLY what the time keeper has given

We thank you for doing this - it will help the recorders greatly and will ensure no child receives an incorrect time or measurement.

NORTHERN REGIONAL GAMES

On Sunday 6th November 2011, our club is hosting the Northern Regional Games at our home ground.  This will take quite a bit of organising, so we are calling on all members to assist in some way.  We will need to be at the grounds from 7am to set up all the equipment and we will also need volunteers to stay back afterwards to help pack up.  We are also in need of volunteers for the canteen and barbecue.  We are certainly not asking you to spend the whole day on the canteen or barbecue, but if quite a few families volunteer it would mean you would only need to be there for an hour or so.  We may possibly be running the inside track, so will need volunteers to assist with this also.  Please let us know what, and when, you would be available to help with.

OFFICIALS AND COACHING COURSE

There is an upcoming Officials and Coaching Course which will be held on Saturday 12th November 2011 from 1pm until 4pm at Salisbury Little Athletics.  We will need to let the Salisbury Little Athletics Centre know numbers, so please email me:  secretary@selac.net to let me know if you wish to attend ASAP.  Thank you.

There are still a number of families who haven't given us their email address.  Can we ask everyone to check with their Little A friends to make sure they are getting the information.  If possible, can they catch up with one of the committee to give an address if they haven't already.  I'm sure most homes have email these days.

Thank you for your time and will keep you informed of upcoming events in the near future.

Kind regards,

Invite Your Friends to the Second Come'n'Try

posted Sep 21, 2011 6:53 PM by Peter Jackson

Just a friendly reminder that we have another Come N Try this Saturday, 24th September, at 8.45am at our home ground, Rundle Reserve, Salisbury South.  This is an excellent opportunity for your child, or children that you may know from school, kindy, etc, for them to have a go at something new, for not a lot of expense.

If you have not registered, or wish to participate in a Come N Try, it may pay you to arrive around half an hour earlier, as it is a very busy time for the registrar at this time of the season.  Please also remember that for those wishing to register, you are able to print off a

and bring along with you Saturday.  This will save having to fill the form out in the morning.

The Come N Try is $3.00 per child, which will be deducted from their registration fee, if they wish to register.  You are entitled to 2 x Come N Try’s before you need to register.

If you are unable to attend this Saturday, you are more than welcome to attend any home meet for a Come N Try.

TRAINING

Training will officially start the week of Monday 10th October.  Training is held on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5.00pm until approximately 6.30pm at our home ground, Rundle Reserve.

SPORTSPOWER

Sportspower, unfortunately, will not be able to attend the Come N Try on Saturday morning, for those who were wishing to purchase new shoes for the season.  You are able to go to their store at Salisbury, Parabanks, to receive discount.

Sportspower will be organising an evening, in the near future, at their store, just for the Salisbury East athletes to be able to attend and get some great savings.  Watch this space for further information.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Season Start

I hope you have all enjoyed the break, and this warmer weather, and are looking forward to coming back to join us for the 2011/12 season.

The start of the season is fast approaching with our Come ‘n’ Try days on Saturday 17th and 24th September, 8:45am, and our first official meet at 8:45 am on 1st October.  Please note that ALL athletes are welcome on the Come 'n' Try days, and that if athletes are registered, their results WILL COUNT for the season.

This season we are going to be holding 2 registration nights to help the start of the season run smoothly. These will be:

  • Monday 12th September 5.00 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Thursday 15th September 5.00 pm - 7:30 pm

Please come during one of these times. You will be able to:

  • complete your registration forms (available on the night)
  • pay your fees
  • find out about coaching and officials courses
  • ask questions regarding chaperoning or how to help out (as we are all volunteers).

The start of the season is particularly busy for the registrar’s, so it is helpful, not only to us, but to yourself, to attend the registration nights, so that you are not having to queue for so long on your first meet back.

We hope to have your registration packs available on these nights, complete with registration numbers, age group patches, programs, etc.  If not, we will have them ready for collection the following Saturday.

Fees for the 2011/12 season are:

  • $70 per athlete

WORKING BEE

We will be holding a working bee this Saturday 3rd September (at the club rooms) to organise things for the beginning of the season.  Any help (even if for an hour or two) would be greatly appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you on one of our registration nights and throughout the 2011/12 season.
